Amy Marie Matthews of Conway, South Carolina died at her home on April 27, 2023. She was born on April 14, 1985 to the late William Ricky Matthews and Donna Leasure Matthews.

Amy was preceded in death by her brother Christopher Dale Overcash. Amy has two surviving brothers, Mikey Overcash and Stephen Matthews. Her loving, lifetime partner Kevin Rider. Amy was the biological mother of four sons and one daughter. In addition to many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and several lifelong friends.

Many people know Amy the drug addict. We share this with you to say she was so much more than that. Amy was a beautiful little girl with the biggest smile. She was so funny and such a kind child. She enjoyed helping her mom with her younger brother. Amy and her mother shared a very strong, loving bond. As cousins we all share memories of sleep overs, scary movies and the best easter egg hunts. She was the love of Kevin's life. She had several childhood and lifelong friends with whom she shared special memories.

Drug addiction does not discriminate. Drugs took over Amy's life. A life like so many others that was full of promise. A few months before Amy's death her mother battled cancer and we were all able to come together as a family. That is time we are all thankful for. We share this to say Amy was someone. She was a daughter, sister, mother, partner, aunt, niece, cousin, and a friend. Amy had many people who loved her and would have helped her. Yet that was not enough to save her.

Many will read this and think why are they sharing this? In all honesty, we thought about that too. How does it look? What will people say? What we want you to see is that this can be your family, your partner, or your friend. This can be you. We want people to know that we understand. If sharing Amy's story can save one person, it makes it worth sharing.
