Beverly
Enwall
July 8, 1931 – March 16, 2025
Dr. Beverly Moen Bazán Enwall, PhD, 93, of Loris, South Carolina, passed away Sunday March 16, 2025. Beverly was born July 8th, 1931 the only child of James O. and Dorothy O. (Singer) Moen of Seattle, Washington.
The family moved to California around 1941 where Beverly had fond memories of riding horses with her father. She excelled academically in school, receiving her BA in Spanish from Pomona College in 1952. That summer she sailed to Barcelona, Spain returning June 1953 to attend Stanford University in the Fall. In June 1954 she participated in a Stanford program in Guadalajara, Mexico for Spanish majors. During the final weeks of the program, she was offered employment for a year at a private bilingual school for children. She met and married her first husband, Hector Bazán in 1955. She left Mexico with her three children in January 1961 and returned to Stanford to complete her Spanish Masters. Living in the Sacramento area she taught at several high schools while supporting three small children. In 1964 she met Dale Enwall working on his Spanish Masters and they married in 1965 and moved to Davis, California. Beverly completed her doctorate in Spanish earning her PhD from Stanford in 1968. In 1970 the family moved to Delaware, Ohio for three years before moving to Columbia, South Carolina June 1973. Beverly initially worked at the state Department of Education as a Foreign Language consultant before being promoted to Chief Supervisor of the Curriculum Development section, a position she enjoyed for many years. After leaving the state Department of Education, she taught high school in Florida and translated engineering drawings for a manufacturing company in Portland, Oregon before retiring in Myrtle Beach, SC in July 2001. In April 2021 she moved to the lovely small town of Loris, SC.
In retirement she learned about the Internet using it for exploring, researching and writing stories on any topic that interested her, completing 67 titles across different genres. She wrote "Globe Trotter" books for small children exploring the world, and children learning their ABCs. The American Revolution with South Carolina's role with Francis Marion in The Fox and Me, and Henry and John Laurens in Laurens: A Father, A Son, and a Revolution. Stories of interesting people in history, espionage or historical romance, whatever caught her fancy. She developed a network of over 400 "photo pals" who let her use their pictures for her travel books. And when she wasn't writing, she was well known for keeping a close eye on the NFL season keeping her "Rainbow Chart" updated with game predictions and results in friendly competition with her statistician son Henry. She believed locker room chemistry was key, and had ready advice for any football team wishing to avail themselves of her opinions. And she very much loved Loris with it's tall trees and friendly people, the outings and "get togethers' with friends and neighbors filled with wonderful conversation and cuisine. Her video library filled with favorite shows and movies provided wonderful entertainment for her and friends. Her mind remained sharp right up to the last months of her life. She always "Bloomed where she was planted", a favorite saying she often quoted.
Beverly was preceded in death by her parents James O. and Dorothy O. (Singer) Moen, and her husbands Hector Bazán (March 2016), and Dale Enwall (April 2017), and her son Lefric Enwall (April 2023).
Beverly is survived by her children: James Enwall (Woodinville, WA), Enrique (Henry) Bazán, (Guadalajara, Mexico), Laura Enwall (Ormond Beach, FL), Jillian Moody (Surfside, SC) and her grandchildren.
Beverly Enwall, mother, educator and author will be missed. She will be laid to rest with her parents at Bayview Cemetery in Bellingham, Washington.
