Brown Lowe Phillips Jr. (88) passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, September 11th, 2023, after a long illness. He was the husband of Jo Mary (McInturff). They shared 68 years of marriage together.
Born December 30th, 1934, in Crossnore, North Carolina, Brown was the son of Amanda Haney (Painter) and Brown Lowe Phillips, Sr. He attended Swannanoa High School where he met his future wife at a birthday party. After high school, he hitchhiked to Michigan to begin a career in the auto industry. He gained employment with the Ford Motor Company at the Rouge Plant in Dearborn, Michigan. He began work on the assembly line, holding positions as a boring machine operator, press operator and assembler. He achieved multiple certifications from the Detroit Engineering Institute and Henry Ford Community College and went on to become the Supervisor of Maintenance at the Ford Mustang Assembly Plant He retired after 43 years of dedicated service.
After retirement, he and his wife moved to Murrells Inlet, South Carolina, where they lived until the time of his passing. Brown was an Elder at the Trinity Presbyterian Church. He was a member of the Freemasons who later became Worshipful Master of the Masonic Lodge. He was also a 32nd degree Mason and a Shriner. Brown was a classic car enthusiast who enjoyed showing his antique cars (55 Thunderbird and 65 Mustang) at car shows. Other hobbies included spending time in his garden, going on cruises, and going out to eat. He will be remembered as a true southern gentleman who was a hardworking and dedicated family man.
He is survived by his wife, Jo Mary, his four children; Cheryl Flesher (Matthew - deceased), Carol McKinney (Michael - deceased), Jonathan Phillips (Mary), and Karen Clay (Christopher), 11 grandchildren; Jason Therrien (Morgan), Shannon Bauer, Matthew Flesher (April), Nina Kammerich (Anthony), Melanie Callan (Brian), Michael McKinney (Liz), Carrie Clay, Amanda Flesher (Carrick), Christopher Clay (Chelsea), Kelly Tromeur (Matthew), Caitlin Flesher (Brett) and 12 great grandchildren; Logan, Lilia, Savannah, Ethan, Chase, Mary Jane, Jackson, Zachary, Marilyn, Benjamin, Vaida, and Magnus. He was predeceased by both parents and his stepfather, James.
Services will be held on Saturday, September 30th, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. at the Trinity Presbyterian Church, 2061 Glenns Bay Road, Surfside, SC 29575. For those unable to attend, the memorial will be livestreamed on the Trinity Facebook Page: https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100071185123489
