Charles Eugene
Hill
January 3, 1922 – June 12, 2021
Charlie lived a full and wonderful 99 years always surrounded by people who loved him. Born to Mary Wendt and Charles Hill, and raised in Jersey City, NJ, he grew up with his 3 sisters and 2 brothers. With nicknames such as "Little Runt" and "Whitey," as a child Charlie was always causing excitement and laughter. During the Great Depression, he served in Utah with the Civilian Conservation Corps. When the US entered World War II, he joined the Navy and worked as a paramedic aboard the USS Charles F. Hughes. A year after his discharge from the Navy, he joined the New Jersey National Guard. Soon after the war he met and married the love of his life, Katherine V. Degnan. They lived a good life and raised two daughters, Catherine and Jennifer, in Jersey City and Fords, NJ. He concluded his career in the NJ National Guard, living in Spring Lake Heights, NJ.
To know Charlie was to instantly love him. A dedicated and loving Husband, Father, Poppy, Great Poppy and Friend who made everyone smile with his never ending, interesting stories and charming personality.
He is survived by his brother Joseph, daughters Catherine Hill of Dubai and Jennifer (and Albert) Colombaroni of Myrtle Beach, SC, 3 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. We will all miss him dearly and he will be forever in our hearts.
A memorial service will be held in Spring Lake, NJ. Please contact Catherine or Jennifer for details.
