Obituary

Charles Russell Moore, 80, of Hemingway, South Carolina, peacefully made his journey to the angel choir in heaven on July 9, 2025.

Born on November 11, 1944, in Union, South Carolina, Russell was the son of Reverend Charles Lee Moore Jr. and Margaret Greer Moore. He graduated from Union High School and shortly thereafter moved to Muddy Creek to marry the love of his life, Linda Davis Moore.

Russell was raised in Indiantown Lodge #165 on February 28, 1969, and proudly served as Worshipful Master in 1974. A dedicated member for over 56 years, he exemplified the values of service, brotherhood, and integrity.

After retiring from General Telephone Company (GTE), Russell pursued a lifelong dream of driving "big" trucks by earning his CDL certification. True to his nature, he made sure his routes were short so he could return home quickly to his beloved bride. He later worked as a CDL driver for McCall's Inc. of Johnsonville for several years before retiring once again.

In the next chapter of his life, Russell started Creak Yard Services, a small business inspired by his "creaky" equipment—and as he joked, his own creaky joints. He became well-known for his yard work, water taps, and septic tank services, always helping neighbors and community members with a smile.

Russell was passionate about many things—especially softball. In fact, his proposal to Linda came with a memorable twist: after she said yes, he said, "Let's go. I've got a ballgame to get to!" He later served as a slow-pitch softball umpire for many years and enjoyed staying active in community events.

An avid outdoorsman, he loved hunting, fishing, and camping. He was also a talented woodworker, often crafting wooden toys for children and passing down those skills to his grandchildren. But above all else, family was his greatest joy. He cherished his children and grandchildren deeply—and his great-grandchildren were the absolute apples of his eye.

Russell was a faithful member of Ebenezer Methodist Church, where he served in many roles over the years, including Sunday School Superintendent, Church Treasurer, choir director, and choir member.

Russell is survived by his devoted wife of over 61 years, Linda Davis Moore; his daughters Gaye M. Douglas and Carla M. McCall; grandchildren Jordan (Lil) Douglas, Justin (Ariel) Douglas, Jameson McCall, Kimberlyn (Matthew) Stallings, and Jaiden McCall; and great-grandchildren Jackson Douglas, Lilly Margaret Douglas, Royce Douglas, Sunnie Douglas, Jansen McCall, Harlyn McCall, and Dallas Stallings.  He is also survived by his brother, Ronnie (Barbara) Moore, and many beloved nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at Ebenezer Methodist Church, Hemingway, South Carolina, at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 13, 2025. Visitation will follow in the church fellowship hall.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the wonderful ladies who lovingly cared for "Granny & Pa" during their time of need.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Ebenezer Christian Child Care Center, 985 Gasters Rd., Hemingway, SC 29554.
