Chase Alexander
Hodges
April 25, 2006 – June 25, 2025
It is with profound sorrow and boundless love that we announce the passing of Chase Alexander Hodges, who entered eternal peace on June 25, 2025, at the age of 19. Born on April 25, 2006, Chase lived a life defined not by his battles with his severe bleeding disorder Glanzmanns Thrombasthenia, but by the radiant light, humor, and grace with which he met those daily challenges.
Though his body endured immense suffering, Chase's soul remained full of kindness, depth, humor and resilience. He was brilliant and brave, loving and wise beyond his years. To know him was to be changed by his courage, and to love him was a gift beyond measure.
Chase is survived by his mother, Shay, who never left his side and who he shared his laughter and his tears with. He is also remembered in love by his father Joshua Hodges and stepmother Jamie Sweatt, and his beloved "Sissy," Serena Hester, who adored him with all her heart as well as brother in law Kaleb Thomas and his precious niece Eliana Thomas.
He is deeply mourned by "RooRoo" Margaret Witt, Papa Danny Causey, and his adored younger brother Thomas Sweatt, with whom he shared a love of gaming and laughter. He shared a special bond with his cousin Austin Causey, and was cherished by his uncles and aunts: Heath and Melissa Causey, Anthony Causey, Jeremy Hartless, Anthony Bille, and Hollie Warren. He will also be dearly missed by his close friends Frank Barnhill, Jason Bishop and Chance Malkasian.
Chase was preceded in death by his beloved Nana, Iris Causey, whose presence he saw and felt as he passed peacefully from this world into the next.
In life, Chase inspired everyone around him—family, friends, caregivers, and physicians—with his quiet bravery and radiant soul. He was recently chosen as the 2025 Ambassador of the year for the Bleeding Disorder Association of South Carolina. He wanted a world where all people with bleeding disorders were heard and received the care they needed. As one dear friend shared:
"He was one of the kindest individuals I've ever had the pleasure to know. I looked forward to our talks every week, and I've consistently used him as a reference for what it means to be resilient."
Another wrote:
"I am nothing more than better to know you. I am a stronger, solid physician because I know you. I am a softer, more attentive mother and friend. I love you."
And from a heart wrapped in faith:
"God's mercies are now with you in His perfect kingdom—no more pain, no more bad health. Peace, love, and contentment eternally for you. Amen."
Chase's passing was peaceful, filled with love, and surrounded by those who held him dearest. Though our grief is immeasurable, so is our gratitude for having known him.
A private cremation is being arranged.
In his honor, be kind. Be brave. Love deeply. Look for him in every beautiful thing around you, especially in nature and the night sky as he loved shooting stars. And carry his light forward. Remember we may be bruised but we are not broken.
