Diana
Peterson
November 17, 2024
Diana (Barone) Peterson passed away on November 17, 2024 at 90 years of age, following her battle with Alzheimer's Disease. Her final days were spent peacefully at The Palmettos of Garden City in Murrells Inlet, SC. where she had lived for the past three years following the death of her husband Irving Peterson (who was her high school sweetheart).
Diana is survived by daughter Lori Withall and her husband Robert Withall, son Steven Pellicci and his wife Danielle Pellicci, granddaughter Robin Withall Chesnut and her husband Michael Chesnut and her three great-grandsons, Miles, Winston and Clarence Chesnut.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her brother Robert Barone and parents Frank and Aida Barone.
Diana spent much of her life following her dream as a professional opera singer attending The New York College of Music in Manhattan following graduation from High School. She lived in Milan, Italy and performed at La Scala and in Vienna, Austria where she performed at The Vienna Opera House. She was a member of the Metropolitan Opera touring company and in addition traveled the country performing in Summer Stock Theater. Upon her retirement from music, she and her husband settled in Oriental, NC and she studied and became a certified Yoga and Tai Chi instructor. She enjoyed sharing her love of those disciplines with hundreds of students of all ages.
Diana loved learning other languages and traveling. She enjoyed snow skiing and water skiing when she was younger and took up kayaking after moving to NC where she could be seen daily, riding her bicycle all over town. She was an avid Scrabble player (albeit quite competitive and a stickler about following the rules) and enjoyed Sudoku puzzles.
She was eager to try new things and experience all that life has to offer. In doing so she met new friends along the way and cultivated lifelong friendships not only in the US but all over the world.
Known for her beautiful smile and vivacious personality, Diana will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
Arrangements are private.
