Obituary

Frances 'Candy' McCahan Chinn Cloud of Murrells Inlet, SC passed away on November 4, 2024 at the age of 74.  She is survived by her step daughters, Bridget (Paul) Brancato and Rachel Cloud; grandchildren, Hailey Brancato and Jacob and Emma Watts; brother, Byron (Kathie) Chinn; nephew, Byron Jr. (Stacy) Chinn; nephew, Neale (Kara) Chinn and dear friend and caregiver, Amanda Simpson.  She was predeceased by her husband, William Everett 'Coach' Cloud; her parents, 'Baskerville' and 'Frances' Chinn and her brother, George Chinn.

Candy was born on February 12, 1950, to parents, George Baskerville and Alice Frances Chinn in Bayside, NY.  In 1952, while her father served in the US military in Korea, she and her mother and brothers moved to Round Bay, MD to live with her grandmother, Alice Greene in the beloved family home on the Severn River. The remainder of her childhood and young adult life was spent in Alexandria, Oakton and Vienna VA.   In her youth she fell in love with horses and began riding lessons.  She became an accomplished rider, competed in many horse shows and equestrian jumping events at Full Cry Farms in Vienna and received over 20 ribbons.  She attended James Madison High School, graduated in 1968 and headed to East Carolina University in Greenville, NC.  These years away from home and surrounded by friends were among the highlights of her life.  She was a proud member of the Alpha Delta pi sorority and often spoke of and cherished these friendships.   She graduated in 1972 with a BA in Psychology and Political Science.

Later that year, she accepted a job as a loan closer at a mortgage company in Atlanta and in 1976 was transferred to the corporate office in Denver to train in all phases of mortgage lending.  It was in Denver that she met the love of her life, and future husband as he passed through Denver on a cross-country trip with friends.  They were married on January 12, 1980.

It was at this point that she started an incredibly impressive career excelling over the next 30+ years in the mortgage banking industry.  She was a gifted leader, opened and supervised multiple branches and held titles of Branch Manager, Regional Manager, and Vice President at various companies along the east coast.  In 1989, she and Everett moved to South Carolina and in 1990 she obtained her broker's license and originated and closed substantial loans in the Myrtle Beach area prior to her retirement.

After retirement, she had time to pursue her interest in color, design and decorating.  She became an accomplished home décor seamstress creating pillows, window treatments and bedspreads, and through the use of paint and texture, delighted in turning old furniture into pieces of art.

She was a longtime soap opera fan of The Young and the Restless and The Bold and the Beautiful.  Although she laughingly questioned her wisdom for continuing to watch, she rarely missed an episode.  Current events and news cycles kept her days busy and her mind sharp.  She was always up for a good political discussion.

She cherished the time she spent with her grandchildren and was always happy to hear of their accomplishments. She and Everett loved their home on the creek in Murrells Inlet and turned it into a weekend party retreat for friends, family and neighbors that wanted to be part of the fun.  Friday nights on the open-air patio were the social side of their lives that they most enjoyed.

During the last several years, chronic pain became her constant companion and she tirelessly sought the advice of professionals with new ideas.  She tried valiantly to remain positive and continued to hope for a cure.  Now, finally at peace, and free of pain, she flies on the wings of angels.

Candy will be laid to rest at 11 am on Saturday, May 10th at Yeocomico Church, 1233  Old Yeocomico Road, Kinsale, VA.  A celebration of her life will follow at Old Rapp Taphouse, 130 Main St., Warsaw, VA. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the charity of your choice in Candy's name.
