Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Gary Phillips, a beloved husband and father, who was called home on June 20, 2026, at the age of 86. Born on April 13, 1940, in the city of Portland, Oregon, Gary lived a life filled with love, dedication, and an unwavering spirit.

Gary was the son of the late Ina and Everett Phillips. He shared a special bond with his brother, Byron Phillips, and was a devoted uncle to his niece, Lory Chesbrough, and nephew, Scott Phillips.

On August 23, 1975, Gary married, Bettejean, and together they celebrated over 50 years of marriage. He was blessed with three sons, Michael, Mark, and Mathew Phillips, each of whom inherited Gary’s kindness and generosity. A proud grandfather, Gary’s legacy continues through his six grandchildren, who brought joy to his life.

He served his country with honor in the United States Army from 1959 to 1962. He had great respect for service and community, which he carried throughout his life.

Gary found his professional calling in real estate and business development, to which he dedicated many years. His colleagues and clients valued his wisdom and the welcoming spirit he brought to every endeavor.

Beyond his professional achievements, Gary enjoyed a good game of golf. He and Bettejean shared a love for travel, creating memories that would last a lifetime.

Those who had the privilege of knowing Gary will remember him for his kindness, generosity, and the warmth he exuded. He was a man who welcomed everyone with open arms. His legacy is one of compassion and the enduring impact of his welcoming spirit.
