It is with great sadness that our family announces Jack's passing on February 10, 2024 at the age of 85 with his loving wife Marilyn by his side .
Jack Carroll Berkut was born on October 25, 1939 in Raleigh ,NC. After spending time in the military Jack and Marilyn were married on December 31, 1964 . They settled in Brandywine, Maryland where they raised their three children , Debbie, Michael and Wayne . Jack had a long career in the computer industry, following this he pursued his true passion as a master craftsman working as a general contractor and fine woodworker .
Jack enjoyed spending his free time golfing, volunteering at the local VFW, American Legion , and working with the Boy Scouts. In retirement he spent over 15 years volunteering with injured veterans and their families at the Walter Read Army Hospital and delivering meals for the food bank. In his later years , personal time was spent travelling the world with Marilyn and enjoying carving duck decoys, winning him many awards at competitions.
Jack will be remembered for his ability to enter a room full of strangers, leaving knowing all of their life stories . He was known for his witty humor and practical jokes , embarrassing his family with mischievous stunts , always with his iconic smirk and laugh . He and Marilyn never missed a graduation of their grandchildren, they meant the world to them.
In addition to his loving wife Marilyn ( Davis ) , Jack is survived by his daughter Deborah ( Paul ) Champagne , son Wayne ( Lorie ) Berkut , daughter in law Krista Berkut, grandchildren Patrick ( Kirsti ), Malia ( Jack ) , Maile, Jordan, Olivia , Vida , Wesley, Faith and step- granddaughter Shelby ( Brent ), sister Nancy (Frank) Beck and sister in law Elizabeth Nichols. Jack was predeceased by his parents Dr. Michael Berkut (Colonel Ret. Army)and Cora Lee ( Mills ) Berkut and loving son John Michael .
We love you Jack , you will forever be remembered in our hearts .
There will be a celebration of Jack's life at a later date as well as burial at the Veterans cemetery in Cheltenham, Maryland.
In remembrance of Jack's life and love , donations can be made to your local food bank or a Veteran's charity of your choice .
