Beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, godfather, nephew, son, and dear friend went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, March 5, 2024 at the age of 64 years.
James (Jim) was born on September 11, 1959 in Rochester, MN to the late Gerond (Jerry) and Marlyne (Kniebel) Quiel. He graduated from Lakeview High School, Battle Creek, MI, the class of 1978. He went on to attend Central Michigan University. Jim married Sandra S. (Goupil) Quiel on September 10, 1988. He worked many years in retail; delivering flowers for DWF of Flint, MI, Sears in Saginaw, MI, and Home Depot in Saginaw, MI. Jim retired in 2019 after moving to Conway, SC. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Saginaw, MI and Trinity United Methodist in Conway, SC. He enjoyed going to plays and comedy shows at the local theatre, tinkering and fixing items, and walking his beloved dog, Tucker. Jim enjoyed socializing with friends at his local Applebee's, his MS support group in both Saginaw, MI and Myrtle Beach, SC, and playing bingo at the local American Legion. He valued his annual vacation to Hilton Head Island, SC with family and friends.
Jim will be remembered as kind, generous, loving, sincere, funny, honest, caring, good-natured, accepting, loyal, committed, selfless, and a jokester. He will be remembered as a hero to everyone that knew him.
Surviving besides his daughter, Kelly Lynn Quiel (Zachary Moore), are his sister-in-law Janet (Greg) Schultz, his sisters: Wendie McAllaster, Tammie (Patrick) Gillespie, his aunts: Sue Bergman and Jan Rapacke, his cousins: Sherry (Ron) Brandt, Lisa (Lew) Beckerdite, Todd Clasen, and Maili Bergman, his nieces and nephews: Steven (Juli) Schultz, Scott Schultz, Sara McAllaster, Allison and Thomas Gillespie, a great-nephew and niece: Harrison and Madeline Schultz, his God-daughter Jillian Bautista, close friends whom became family: Cindy and Sam Nunn, Matthew (Lindsey) Nunn, Megan and Eric (Ella and Benny) Krummen, Don and Lisa (Amber) Knapp, and Chris and Leslie Bautista, along with countless other family members and friends.
Besides his parents, Jim was predeceased by his wife Sandra Quiel, his sister Debbie Quiel, his mother-in-law Shirley Humphrey, and his nephew Chris McAllaster.
Keeping with Jim's wishes, a celebration of his life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Jim's name to the American Cancer Society, the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, or the ASPCA.
