Myrtle Beach- June 25, 1929 to March 7, 2021. James Wilbur Shirley Sr (Pete) age 91, went to his heavenly home on March 7, 2021. He passed away at home. He went peacefully in his sleep. He was born in Mohegan, West Virginia. He was the son of Tom Shirley and Pearl  Chambers Shirley Turner and step father Evans Turner. He was the last surviving child. He is preceded in death by his father Tom Shirley mother Pearl Turner step father Evans Turner one sister Ethel  Evans, 3 brothers Raymond Shirley, Chuck Shirley and Roy Shirley.

He graduated from Ieager West Virginia  high school ,attended college in Bluefield West Virginia at Athens University before entering the Airforce where he served his country both domestic and abroad for 20 years and 28 days including Iwo Jima and Vietnam and others.

He retired to Myrtle Beach South Carolina. He worked at Martin Brothers Electric , AVX and Kmart. He enjoyed working in his yard, garden, carpenter, electrician and quilting and was an excellent cook.

He had two surviving children a daughter Grace Anna Shirley of Anderson and a son James Wilbur Shirley Jr of Myrtle beach and former wife Florence Elkins Shirley McAlister of Anderson.

He was saved at a small Baptist church in Harlingen Texas.

A memorial will be held at MJ DOLLY Veterans cemetery, date and time tba.
