June Esther Sheldon Hodges, 92, of Myrtle Beach, SC, died on Wednesday January 19, 2022 of natural causes. She was born on June 2, 1929 in Springboro, Pa., to the late Herbert and Fannie (Grover) Sheldon, growing up on a farm along with 12 brothers and sisters.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, Stanley John Nierwienski, her second husband Zola Hodges, five sisters, and five brothers.
June was a lifelong employee of the Baltimore County, MD Public School Cafeteria System advancing from unpaid volunteer to Cafeteria Manager and then to being an Area Manager. She enjoyed a long 30 year retirement in Avon Park, FL and Myrtle Beach, SC.
June was a person of many talents and interests – Built own house with first husband, Cub Scout leader, avid square dancer, clown, seamstress, avid crafter – taught crafts for many years in retirement, green thumb, camper, avid reader of William Johnstone westerns. She spent many retirement summers traveling the US and living in her Dodge Caravan visiting all 50 states. June was well known for her independent streak and always being on a diet.
She is survived by 3 children, Martin S. Nierwienski of Myrtle Beach, SC, Kenneth J. Nierwienski of Baltimore, MD, and Bruce S. Nierwienski of Martinsburg, WV. She also leaves behind 4 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
June's final instructions were that her ashes should be spread under a pretty tree.
