Katherine Nell Gula of Murrells Inlet, age 84, died on Tuesday, September 27th at Tidelands Waccamaw Community Hospital.
She was born in Aliquippa, Pennsylvania on January 24, 1932, the daughter of Michael and Ann (Maruskin) Keller. Her father, a union organizer, inspired a life-long interest in politics. Ms. Gula raised seven children in Hopewell Township, PA and relocated to the Myrtle Beach area in 1979. One of her chief hobbies was keeping up with her many relatives. She had an excellent memory and was a wealth of information related to family history; we will all miss listening to her stories. Family members also noted her love of children and her kindness, strength and intelligence.Ms. Gula was preceded in death by three of her children, Drew Gula, Debbie Horsley and Karen Diven. She is survived by three siblings, Michael Keller, Jr. of California, Betty Ann Lytle of Pennsylvania and John Keller of Florida; four children, April Monteforte and Jerry Gula of Myrtle Beach, Kathleen Gula of Spartanburg and Ron Gula of North Carolina; ten grandchildren, Kim Cook, Grant Cook, Heather Gula and Courtney Lentz of Myrtle Beach, Ryan Alderman of Conway, Kelly Diven Albrecht and Katherine Diven Allen of Maryland, Michelle Cook of Charleston, Kristen Lentz of North Carolina, and Alex Gula of Massachusetts; a nephew, Guy Gentile of Pennsylvania; and numerous others, including many great-grandchildren.The family would like to thank the staff of Tidelands Waccamaw Community Hospital for their kindness during the last week of Ms. Gula's life. An informal celebration of life will be held in the Myrtle Beach area at a later date
