Obituary

Kenny Owens was a man of quiet strength, boundless kindness, adventure, and a deep love for his wife of 45 years Dolly/Darlene, people and animals. His gentle soul touched everyone he met, and his compassion knew no limits. A well-lived life, Kenny's journey was one marked by service, adventure and unwavering love.

Born into a family of truckers, Kenny carried on this proud tradition as a long-haul trucker, traveling to all 46 contiguous states. He retired from trucking with an award for 2,000,000,000+ miles safe driving. Alongside his beloved wife, Dolly, Stella, and Bud and their pets. Kenny explored the wonders of 45 states in campers. His love for the road and the open horizons was a testament to his adventurous spirit.

Kenny proudly served his country as a Sergeant in the Army during the Vietnam era and the Army Nation Guard, including deployments during Desert Shield and Desert Storm as a dedicated truck driver retiring in 2012. He was a vital part of the 131st Transportation Battalion, ensuring the delivery of weapons, medical supplies, and equipment across Kuwait and Iraq. His 28.5 years of military service reflected his steadfast commitment to his comrades and his country.

An activity member of VFW Post 5265 in Spring Grove, PA, Kenny found great purpose in honoring fellow veterans. He served with the York County Verterans Honor Guard for five years, paying tribute to those who had walked similar paths. Even after facing physical challenges from strokes, Kenny continued to offer his help and support, embodying the essence of generosity.

Kenny's compassionate heart extended to animals and his life was brightened by his furry companions. He was heartbroken by the loss of his beloved Sheba but found solace in welcoming Timber, who brought him immense joy in his final days.

Preceded in death by his parent, Robert and Betty, sisters Peggy and Mary, brother Roger, and beloved in-laws Estella and Norman, Virginia, and Kathleen Zartman. Kenny is now reunited with them in eternal rest. He is survived by his cherished wife Dolly, and brother-in-law Terry Zartman, who will continue to honor his memory.

Kenny's legacy is one of compassion, strength, and unwavering dedication to his loved ones, community and country. He will be remembered for his warmth, his willingness to help, and the laughter he brought into every room. Though his road journeys have ended, the miles he traveled in the hearts of those who loved him will continue forever.

A celebration of Kenny's life will be held on March 23rd from 1:00 to 4:00 at the VFW in Spring Gove, PA, with internment to follow on March 25th at 1:00 at the Fort Indiantown Gap National VA cemetery.
