Laurence P. Cournoyer Sr. 72, of Myrtle Beach, SC, and formerly of Holyoke, Mass., passed away February 18, 2017.
He was born May 23, 1944 in Holyoke, Mass., a son of the late Arthur and Jeannette (Taupier) Cournoyer.
Laurence was a police officer retiring as a Sergeant after 32 years of honorable service with the Holyoke Police Department. He was a member of St. Michaels Catholic Church, the Murrells Inlet, SC Moose Lodge # 2351 and a life longmember of the N.R.A. Laurence was a member of the Mass. Police Association, the SC Coastal Shields and was very active in his community, serving as the Secretary of the Dogwood Estates HOA. He was also an avid golfer.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Alice (Engel) Cournoyer; sons Laurence (Bonnie) and Steven Cournoyer; daughters Christine (Bob) Devin, Catherine (Brian) Lamirande; grandchildren Kayla, Scott, Sydney, Kevin, Lindsay, Britta, Alyssa Cournoyer, and Jenna Devin; brothers Norm (Darlene) Cournoyer, Raymond Cournoyer; sister Denise (Jim) Beegle; brother in law James (Jacqueline) Engel; andnumerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral Mass will be held at 2:00pm on Friday February 24, 2017 at St. Michaels Catholic Church in Garden City, SC with a reception at the Amenities Center at Island Green Community.
A memorial service will be held in Holyoke, Mass. on Saturday, March 4th at Messier's Funeral Home from 10 AM - 12 PM with reception to follow.
