Our beloved mother, Linda Burris Chitwood, 76, of Midland, NC, was with family as she peacefully entered into God's kingdom on December 7th, 2022. She had a kind and beautiful soul that will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Linda, born on December 20th, 1945 to Fred W. and Gatha Austin of Stanly County, was a bundle of joy from the very beginning. She grew up on her parent's farm and after graduating from high school and pursued a career with Bell South /AT&T from which she retired after 30+ years of service. She was also a founding member of United Love Baptist Church in Midland, NC. She loved the church with all of her heart.
Linda was passionate about collecting dolls and after her retirement, she opened a small business selling dolls and varieties. She loved seeing the locals and meeting new faces every day at the store. While at home, she enjoyed family and friend gatherings, playing cards, swimming, maintaining her roses, making her world-famous homemade coleslaw. And of course, caring for all of her grandchildren through-out the years.
Linda was predeceased by her parents, Gatha Howell Austin, Fred Washington Austin. Sisters; Mary Ellen Huneycutt, Imogene Jordan, and Hilda Thompson. She is survived by her son; Dannie Burris Jr. of Charlotte, NC. Her daughter; Amy Elizabeth Thornton (Chris) of Myrtle Beach, SC. Her grandchildren; Jesse, Corey, Brittany, Sara, and Lauren. Her great-grandchildren; Layla, John-Wyatt, Amber, Tripp, and Elliana. And her brother Ronald Austin (Gail).
Linda requested a celebration of life be held in her honor as opposed to traditional funeral services. Family and friends are requested to join in celebrating her beautiful life at United Love Baptist Church with Rev. Marvin Tyson on Wednesday, December 28th. at 11:00 am.
