Obituary

Michael Eugene Brown, 63, of Myrtle Beach, SC died on November 25th, 2016.

Michael was born on November 20th, 1953 in Florence, SC, a son to the late Fred Brown and the late Amanda Louise Brown (Coats).

In life, Gene was an original drummer/singer at the Carolina Opry and the former Myrtle Beach Opry in Myrtle Beach. In his many years he performed with Alabama, Travis Tritt, Charlie Daniels, Bold Breed, Bread, Classic Fours, Vince Gill and more. As a performer he was very charismatic, anointed, talented, eye catching musician. Off stage he was just as charismatic, a wonderful loving father, a loyal friend with much compassion to everyone he met.

He is survived by his children Amanda Brown - Gasgue (Shane), Alexis Sharp (Christopher) and Michael Brittaney Mistovich (Robert Jr.), his grandchildren Paige, Madison, Samantha, Hayden, Chandler, Landon, Ezra, Arya, Haley, Abigail and Connor, his brothers David Brown and Larry Brown, the mother of his daughters, Debbie Howell (married 1972 - 1989) and his second wife, Betty Moore-Bell (married 1993 - 2006).

David Brown, brother to Michael, shared these sentiments: "My brother Gene led a full and amazing life and he lived it "his" way. On stage he not only played the drums, he connected personally with the people in the room. Sometimes he would pause and point his drum stick at a person and give them "a look" that brought a smile. Remember "Achy Breaky Heart?" I encouraged a group of people to request him to sing it 4 times in one night. I know he was tired of playing the song. You never saw it on stage though. He was happy making others happy to be there. He believed in Heaven so that is where he is now. I love you Gene. I will never forget your life with us. Now rest and be at peace. My love to you always, your brother, David."

For those who would like to attend a memorial service to honor Gene, it will be held Wednesday, November 30th, 2016 at 2:00 PM at the Gathering Community Church (1504 US 17 Business, Surfside Beach, SC 29576.
