Obituary

Michael Scott Harriss, 53, formerly of Canton, passed away unexpectedly, after complications from a recent injury, on April 6, 2024. He was born on October 31,1970, in Hale Center, Texas to Buddy and Karen (Fox) Harriss.

Mike was a wonderful father, husband, friend, and servant of Christ. He also had a servant's heart and used that to bless other people in any way he could.

Two of his greatest gifts in this life were to help others and fix things, in that order.

Mike cared deeply for everyone he knew, whether you were his family, friend or a member of the community.  He was always willing to help someone in need, giving the shirt off his back and always thinking of himself last. He truly had a heart of gold.

Mike greeted everyone with his smile that would radiate happiness to those around him even complete strangers.

Mike and his wife Amanda have lived in Myrtle Beach for the past 10 years where they created a beautiful life dedicated to helping others with their passion for fitness.

Together they were proud co-owners of Sky Fitness 24/7 which Mike was honored to be a part of.

His work in the community extended further with AHT Cooling Systems, USA,  where he loved working for the past 7 years. Where he was lovingly known as, "Mohawk Mike" to his AHT family, customers & industry colleagues, he was revered as a subject matter expert in refrigeration.

Mike's dedication, love, and passion for the people he held dear will be a loss felt by many, especially by his "girls".  He adored his daughters Morgan Marie and Hudson Hazel who were two of his greatest accomplishments.

But his love for his wife Amanda was something Mike ALWAYS proudly displayed.

Mike's favorite scripture, he always sent to her on their anniversary, was

Song of Solomon 2:16 - "I am yours & you are mine ."

Mike is also survived by his son Austin Michael Harriss, who he was immensely proud of; sister Debra McDowell, who loved and admired him, cared for him from birth to 3 years old; Brother-in-law Bruce McDowell, loved and respected him;  & who's  laughter will forever remain with Michael's TEXAS ANTICS as well as a huge family that includes his mother in law Cindy Laps, 11 in-law siblings, over 20 nieces & nephews, and many other extended family members that included aunts & uncles.

Mike was proceeded in death by his mother and father and by his father-in-law Tim Laps.

The Laps family will be planning some thing this May in Ohio to make sure family and friends get to celebrate Mike's life.

Currently, the Harriss' are working on a Myrtle Beach celebration of life will post with more details when they become available.

As the family navigates through their grief, please remember to live by Mike's other favorite scripture,

Jer. 29:11  "for I know the plans I have for you, their plans to prosper…"
