Hromyak Sr
December 2, 1949 – February 5, 2021
Michael William Hromyak, Sr, 71, of Myrtle Beach, SC, formerly of Tamaqua, PA, passed away on Friday, February 5, 2021 after a 6 week battle with COVID-19.
Mike was born on December 2, 1949, son of the late Stephen and Regina Hromyak. After graduating from Tamaqua Area High School in 1967, he went on to study Economics at Lafayette College in Easton, PA., graduating in 1971. While there he was a member of the Lafayette Leopards football team, where he was a two time, Division 2, ECAC All-Star player. He was inducted into the Carbon County Area Sports Hall of Fame in 2013.
Before his college graduation, he landed his first job in 1971 with Prudential Insurance Company, where he worked for 33 years before retiring in 2005. While enjoying his retirement in Myrtle Beach, he took a part time job as a Ranger at Barefoot Resort and Golf, North Myrtle Beach.
Mike was married to his high school sweetheart Mary Lou (Henne), and they celebrated their 50 th Anniversary March 14, 2020. In addition to his wife, he is survived by son Michael, Jr. of Tamaqua; daughter Michele of Myrtle Beach; brother Edward and his wife Donna of Monroe Township, NJ; sister Susan, wife of Ted Clemson, of Tamaqua, PA; three grandchildren, Alexa, Rebekah, and Logan Hromyak; and many nieces and nephews.
He was a member and past President of the Tamaqua Rotary Club; New England Fire Company; Tamaqua Elks, Moose and American Legion, and Trinity UCC Church. Mike was an avid outdoorsman, golfer, and loved to spend his free time detailing vehicles.
Anyone who knew Mike knew that he was the most loving father, husband and Pappy a family could ask for.
A celebration of life will be held at a future date in Tamaqua.
