Obituary

Michael (Mike) Robert Wilson
December 1968 - July 2023

Mike Wilson passed away peacefully in Charleston, SC at the age of 54.

He was the son of Shari Rich - Smith and Charles Robert Wilson and was a long time resident of Myrtle Beach, SC.

In March 2022 he married Jennifer (Jenna) Roberts who he called " the love of my life" at Palmetto Pointe Church of God in Myrtle Beach, SC where they attended church and volunteered regularly.

Mike was a very strong Christian Man of God. His love of the Lord was clear as he often said, "If I tell you I love you, I love you forever." He generously gave his time and talents to area Christian organizations.

Mike was an avid surfer and was looking forward to getting back on his board once his leg healed from surgery. He often watched surfing videos to relax and it was clearly an important part of his life. Other surfers and friends saw Mike as one of the best, if not the best surfer in the area in his youth and thought he could have gone professional.

Mike was a hard worker and extremely talented. He and Jenna worked together to build their family business, Wilson Home Improvement, by combining Mike's talents in carpentry, painting, flooring etc. with Jenna's marketing skills. They loved to work together and Mike enjoyed making clients happy.

Mike never met a stranger and people, including out of towners, felt his welcoming spirit. He dubbed himself the Social Dragonfly. When he entered a room he made it a point to greet each individual.

Mike enjoyed the karaoke circuit and he had fans that requested that he sing certain songs. The most often requested were Folsom Prison, It Ain't My Fault and You Never Call Me By My Name. Jenna always requested, You Can Leave Your Hat On, which he always dedicated to her directly often to the dismay of other admiring women in the room.

His sons were his greatest joy and heartbreak. He loved them "All the way to Jesus". He felt blessed to be able to be a father figure in the lives of other children throughout his life and never stopped referring to them as if each were his own.

Myrtle Beach was "his town". He wanted to take steps to take it back from the crime that now exists. He talked about running for office in the future. He was proud of the Wilson family's accomplishments and often spoke of his grandparents' and other family members' contributions to the town.
He invited everyone to get closer to the Lord and regularly invited them to join him at church. He thought he could improve the town one soul at a time.

On March 23rd 2012 Myrtle Beach Herald did a story on the conversion of the Old Ravioli theater into a Christian club. The front page story showed a photo of Mike with a quote, "I didn't have the money, but I had the time and the talent that God gave me. Mike Wilson, Ground Zero volunteer. The caption under the picture of Mike read.....
Mike Wilson, a painter from Surfside Beach, volunteered to help Ground Zero restore its new home, the Rivoli Theater. Wilson hopes the building will serve as a haven for Christian teens who need an escape.
There is a plaque bearing his name in the foyer at Ground Zero.
