Obituary

Robert Phillip King, age 67, passed away unexpectedly at his home in Surfside Beach, SC on Oct. 15, 2019.
Phil loved Surfside Beach and had called it home for most of his adult life. He was born and raised in Charlotte, NC and after high school graduation, he worked for Coca-Cola Consolidated. In 1970 his family moved to Surfside and Phil followed shortly afterwards. He loved to fish in any kind of water, watch NASCAR races and walk his beloved black lab Duke around Surfside. He had a friendly greeting for all those he met and he will be remembered for his kind heart, gentle spirit and giving nature. He was the man who'd give you the shirt off his back if you needed it.
After he graduated from Olympic High School in Charlotte, Phil pursued a variety of opportunities. One of his more interesting pursuits was serving as captain of a deep sea fishing charter in the Florida Keys. He was a carpenter by trade and at the time of his death he was the maintenance supervisor for Noble Beach Homes where he was noted for the outstanding customer service he provided to guests.
Phil is survived by his mother, Virginia King; daughter, Shannan Minina; grandchildren Syrus and Ahva Minina; and brothers Mitchell, Gary and Michael King. His father Lewis predeceased him. He also leaves behind his faithful companion Duke and a host of friends whose lives were enriched by knowing him.
A private service was conducted by his family; at a later time they will further honor his wishes by gathering at his favorite fishing spot in Murrells Inlet.
