Obituary

Sandra "Sandy" Stevens, 77, passed into eternal life on July 25th, 2025, in her home in Little River, SC, surrounded by her loving family and under the care of Pruitt Health Hospice after battling chronic illness for many years.

Sandy was born on December 22nd, 1947, in Romulus, Mi, the eldest daughter of Jennie and Harry Yost. She attended Woodhaven Community Education and graduated with her high school diploma in 1989.

She married the love of her life, the late David "Skippy" Stevens on March 22nd, 1985 and together they had a blended family of five children: Brenda (Russell) Walker, Debra (Ronald) Orr, Michelle Rudy (Kenneth Windham), Lawrence (Kristie) Barnes, and Cynthia Stevens.

Sandy found her calling in her role as a wife, mother, and grandmother.   Her family was her life's greatest joy. She loved Christmas and often recounted her fondest memories of hosting Christmas Eve in her home surrounded by a large gathering of family and friends.

After her husband's retirement from Ford Motor Company, they left their home state of Michigan and thoroughly enjoyed traveling around the country for two years in an RV then ultimately settled in Sebring, FL. There, Sandy and Dave were very active members of both the VFW and Am Vets and developed many dear friendships.  Sandy loved to be involved and volunteer in her community and could often be found calling Bingo, setting up Euchre games, participating in fundraisers, and singing Karaoke.

Despite being legally blind most of her life, Sandy was an avid reader and especially enjoyed the works of Stephen King. Sandy also loved to travel and was a wonderful road trip companion, always up for an adventure. Sandy was a great listener and could always be counted on for a good conversation.

In her final years she moved to South Carolina to be closer to family. During this time, she enjoyed many family celebrations and welcomed visitors often. She will be fondly remembered for her kindness, openness, perseverance, generosity, quiet faithfulness, and unconditional loving nature.

Sandy was a beloved daughter, sister, aunt, niece, cousin, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. She was proceeded in death by many people she loved dearly including her parents, husband Dave, and daughter Debra. She is survived by her children Brenda, Michelle, Lawrence, and Cynthia; her sister, Pam (Chuck) Hazey; nieces; nephew; ten grandchildren; and ten great- grandchildren.

A true lover of life and family, Sandy enjoyed a celebration of life shortly before her passing on Monday July 21st, 2025, where food, love, memories, and laughs were shared. A memorial service will be held in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina sometime in the Spring of 2026, details will be shared at a later date.
