Shedrick Bertram Clayton, "Clay" was born in the Bronx, New York on the evening of January 27, 1944 to Beatrice Elizabeth (Harvey) Clayton and David Jeff Clayton. After remarrying in 1949, Charles Douglass became his stepfather and they relocated to Queens, New York. Shedrick passed away suddenly and peacefully after a heart attack, on June 27, 2020.

After graduating from High School in Queens New York, he attended the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) a public college in Manhattan, New York City, a part of the State University of New York and focuses on art, business, design, mass communication, and technology connected to the fashion industry. He went on to seek advanced skills in hair and makeup artistry at Robert Fiance Beauty School, known for precision haircuts. In the 1990's he worked at Aviation High School where he became a member of the AFL-CIO union.

The skills he learned enabled him to provide highly specialized application to top models in New York City during photo-shoots. In addition, he designed department store windows at some of the most prestigious stores in NYC. Later in his career, he found the time to provide individualized personal care services to neighbors including doctors, nurses, stewardesses, etc.

He was a lifelong, privately practicing Episcopalian. His friends adored him and have described him as "a gentle soul and a good friend" as they expressed their sense of loss and grief.

He leaves behind a brother, Ira Douglass, a sister, Patricia Douglass, three nieces, Crystal, Jade and Sheridan and a grand nephew, Jacob, and a host of cousins, he is deeply missed. Services will be provided by Grand Strand Funeral Home and Crematory. Due to the corona virus pandemic, a virtual vs. physical memorial service will be held in his honor.
