Stanley Lewis
Kantor
September 15, 1945 – February 23, 2021
Stanley Lewis Kantor died on February 23, 2021. The 75-year-old was a retired attorney, teacher, and volunteer tax-preparer for the elderly. Born in Brooklyn, Stanley graduated from Brooklyn Technical High School in 1963, and earned a Political Science Degree from City College of New York (CCNY) in 1967. Upon graduating from Cornell Law School in 1971, Stanley landed the most rewarding job of his career as Deputy Assistant Attorney General of the State of New York under legendary Attorney General Louis J. Lefkowitz. After leaving the public sector for corporate law, Stanley took his growing family to the New York City suburbs.
Through the years, life threw curveball after curveball Stanley's way, but he never gave up. He always had fun and filled his life with humor, love, family and friends. Stanley regularly exhibited the good, bad, and ugly in playing golf, listening to problems, giving advice, and making puns. He could be gentle, and he could be tough. He was often found cheering on New York sports teams, humming a tune, joking with his Holzer brothers, reading science fiction books, and enjoying TV shows or movies that he stayed (mostly) awake through. Above all, he loved spending time with and holding court among his family in gatherings large and small.
Stanley is survived by his soulmate and wife of almost 35 years, Eva Kantor of Pawley's Island, SC; his son, Jon and wife Wendy Kantor of Herndon, VA; his son, Paul and wife Shari Kantor of Kingston, PA; his stepdaughter, Crystal and husband Kevin Marcus-Kanesaka of Sleepy Hollow, NY; his grandson, Samuel Leslie Kantor; his granddaughters, Ellie Rose Kantor, and Mika and Maiyumi Marcus-Kanesaka, his sister, Ellen and husband Robert Sander of Warwick, NY; and his numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Stanley was predeceased by his sister, Karen Kantor, parents, Mildred "Mickey" and Robert Kantor, and his first wife, Leslie Jane Golden Kantor.
Stanley survived and thrived through many health challenges including: an aortic valve replacement, a heart transplant 10 years ago and recent kidney failure, dialysis. However, the deadly virus, COVID-19, proved too much for him. Like far too many people, Stanley spent his final two weeks in isolation before passing away in an Intensive Care Unit. The grace of the hospital staff and their special precautions allowed Stanley to be surrounded by his wife and sons when he passed.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Stanley's memory to the Tidelands Waccamaw Community Hospital or Mt. Sinai Heart. Tidelands Waccamaw Community Hospital worked tirelessly to make Stanley's final days as comfortable as possible. Mt. Sinai's transplant cardiologist, Dr. Donna Mancini, gave Stanley the precious gift of the past ten years.
