Susan Minnick
Taylor
September 5, 1951 – February 23, 2026
Susan Minnick Taylor, known affectionately to everyone as Susie, passed away on February 23, 2026. Born in Charlotte, North Carolina, on September 5, 1951, to the late Louis and Betty Minnick, she brought joy and kindness to those around her for 74 years. She spent her final years living out her dream in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
Susie was a proud graduate of the South Mecklenburg High School Class of 1969. She went on to build a solid career with the City of Charlotte, where she dedicated 26 years of service to the Charlotte Douglas International Airport before he retirement. While she took pride in her work, Susie knew that life was truly meant to be enjoyed. She was a fun-loving and supportive spirit who was happiest when she was having a good time with the people she loved.
She shared an incredibly close bond with her daughter, Erica. The pair were best friends and travel companions, going all over the country to attend concerts and NASCAR races together. When she wasn't on the road, Susie was likely cheering loudly for her favorite football teams. She was passionate fan of the Carolina Panthers, the Clemson Tigers, and The Florida Gators.
Her favorite place to be was always the ocean. In 2019, she realized her lifelong dream of purchasing a beach house, and she moved there permanently in 2020 to enjoy the salt air. At home, she was never without the company of her beloved cats, Stormy and Katie Scarlett, with Stormy always remaining right by her side.
Susie is survived by her daughter, Erica Bentley; her sisters, Jeannette Chandler and Carol Pettie (Ben Meyer); and her brothers, Nelson Minnick (Debra) and Michael Minnick (Alison). She was preceded in death by her husband, Everett Taylor, and her parents.
Consistent with her joyful nature, Susie did not want a sad or traditional funeral service. Instead, she wanted a gathering filled with laughter and storytelling. To honor her wishes, the family will host a picnic on Saturday, April 4th. The menu will feature her specific requests of fried chicken, potato salad, deviled eggs, and sweet tea. Further details regarding the time and location will be shared soon.
