Walter E. Floyd Jr., 75, died Sunday, July 27, 2025 at Grand Strand Medical Center following a prolonged illness.

Walt was born on July 17, 1950 in Loris, South Carolina to Earl and Cathleen Floyd.  Walt served in the United States Army as a Military Police Soldier and later dedicated his career to the city of North Myrtle Beach Police Department, where he served the community as Chief of Detectives, Major, and Deputy Chief.

Walt was known as a great father, grandfather and friend to many.  He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He made it a priority to spend time with those he loved.

He was predeceased by his parents, Earl and Cathleen Floyd and sister, Barbara Atkinson.

Survivors include his daughter, Ginger Cottingham and her husband Witte; son, Walter E. Floyd III and his wife Casey,of Longs, S.C.; four grandchildren, Morgan, Kyle, Allie and Ethan; longtime companion, Sue Wilson.

Visitation will be at 1:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church of North Myrtle Beach on Thursday, July 31, 2025.  The funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m.
