Obituary

Wanda Altman Summers Eaddy passed away peacefully in the arms of her loving husband, Albert Jackson "Jack" Eaddy, Jr. at their home this past week. Wanda, the daughter of the late Reggie and Elizabeth "Betty" Altman of Pawleys Island and Lavonia Griffin of Georgetown, was born January 24, 1954. She grew up in the creeks and rivers of Pawleys Island.

Wanda worked as a veterinary technician for D.M. McNeal, DVM where she was known to fall in love with her four-legged patients. She also worked in florists and plant nurseries because she loved being surrounded by flowers.  Wanda was a very talented artist. Her favorite subjects were her Lowcountry landscapes and water scenes. She was incredibly talented and creative and always had some project in progress.

Wanda's life was not always an easy one. She endured unimaginable suffering as a survivor of an evil crime spree when she was in her mid-twenties. With the outpouring of love and support of her family and the Pawleys Island community, Wanda did not allow the emotional or physical scars to overcome her. She displayed strength that could only have been provided by the grace of God. This part of her life was written about in the book "A Reason to Live" by Billy Hills and Dale Hudson.

Later in life Wanda would marry the love of her life, Jack. They spent their days growing flowers and plants and trying new crafting projects. In the past few years as Wanda's health declined, Jack tirelessly cared for her every need and he will miss her every day until they are reunited.

While Wanda had many passions and hobbies in her life, she loved nothing more than her three granddaughters, Hallie Butler, Mariah Butler, and Emma Summers who all adored her just as much as she did them. She is also survived by her daughter, Traci Butler (Olin) and her son, Jamie Summers.

In addition to her immediate family, Wanda is survived by her bothers Jim Altman of Pawleys Island and Dean Altman (Gail) of Georgetown, her very special aunts De Ann Jones of Raleigh, and Tootsie Altman of Pawleys Island as well as many special cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends. Also, of course her precious canine sidekicks, Little Bit and Charlie.

A celebration of life will be held at Christ the King Grace Church, 9630 Ocean Hwy, Pawleys Island on Thursday, November 18 th at 3:00pm.
