Obituary

William (Bill) Horn McEvoy, age 91, passed away peacefully on May 25th, 2025 at Conway Medical  Center in Conway, South Carolina. A native of Doylestown, Pennsylvania, William and his triplet sisters,  Betty and Barbara, were born in 1934, creating quite a lot of concern for their parents and substantial  interest by their older sister Nancy and their relatively small home – town community. His siblings passed  away a long time ago leaving William the sole survivor.

William's father, Dr. William J McEvoy, besides spending most of his time in his practice as doctor  in optometry, he also had an enormous interest in photography which later initiated Williams's curiosity  for this hobby. The father would document the development of his children throughout the years with  the usual array of family photos and always finished each year with a special annual Christmas card  featuring his four children. His dad would later explain the technicalities of the camera and dark room photography to William. His mother, Anna Mae Horn McEvoy, was also a profound influence on William's  fascination with all things of nature. A professional floral designer and greenhouse owner, his mother  instilled a high regard for the beauty of nature and an appreciation of the need to preserve and care for  the environment.

William was involved in the family business for several years but ultimately returned to his alma  mater joining the faculty of Cornell University as a Cooperative Extension Specialist, serving the  educational needs of the commercial horticulture industry of New York State. Over the years, William honed his photographic skills through self-education and enrollment in the New York Institute of  photography. Many of his subjects reflecting his passion for floral images, landscapes, seascapes, wildlife  and nature photography. William was an award-winning member of the Artist Cooperative Gallery of  Westerly, RI where he retired years ago. In 2009, when William moved to Myrtle Beach, SC, he became a  member of Seacoast Artist Guild and Carolina Nature Photography Association. He has collected many  awards including several first-place professional division ribbons in the Seacoast Artists Guild Spring and  Fall shows.

William McEvoy is survived by his three children: William, Mary and James together with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his soulmate, Frances Duda with whom he  was devoted for 28 loving years. William crossed paths with Frances while living in Guilford, CT. Years  later, they moved to Westerly, RI where they shared their common interest for fishing and boating. William and Frances decided to move to Myrtle Beach, SC in 2009 to experience a warmer environment, beautiful  beaches, and a nice welcoming community.

William truly loved life and lived it to the fullest through simple pleasures - chatting with friends  and family and spending time with his soulmate, Frances. William had an uncanny ability to reach people  in a deep and positive way; always having a friendly and welcoming disposition making him a pleasure to  be around. His caring and compassionate demeanor was easy to perceive. He will be missed greatly by us  all, not only due to his contribution to the art community, but also because of his kind nature and  willingness to help anyone with anything. The world is now a little dimmer without his light.

Church service will be held at St. Michael's Catholic Church, 542 Cypress Avenue located in  Murrells Inlet, SC 29576 on June 19th, 2025 at 2:00pm.
